Nigel Kearney collected a cheque from the East Belfast District Scouts in memory of their District Vice-President Audrey Beggs.

David Bell said ‘Audrey had no children of her own but she gave a lifetime of unfailing service to the young people in her local community; she had a great rapport and love for children and generations of cub scouts in Gilnahirk and East Belfast loved her dearly. Audrey would have been so very pleased indeed by the amount of money raised in support of this appeal’.

We here would like to express a huge thanks to everyone involved!!

Local Personalities and KEY HOSPITAL STAFF go Strictly for Charity!

UTV’s Marc Mallet and Citybeat’s Stephen Clements are two of eight local personalities who are putting on their dance shoes and teaming up with key staff of the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust for a new corporate event called ‘The Royal Does Strictly’, which is being supported by Kingsbridge Private Hospital.

The event is due to take place on 10th November (10/11/12) at Titanic Belfast and is being organised in aid of the ‘Children’s MRI Scanner Appeal’. The appeal aims to raise £2million for a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) facility dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of sick and injured children in Northern Ireland. This will be located at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, which is currently the only children’s hospital in the UK and Ireland that does not have its own MRI Scanner.

Dr Deirdre Peake, Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children commented “We are delighted that Marc and our other local personalities have joined forces with us to dance for this very worthwhile appeal. An MRI scanner will benefit sick or injured children from all over Northern Ireland, allowing us to provide an enhanced service with early diagnosis and treatment by staff trained in the care of children and in a child-friendly environment.”

Sarah Quinlan from the charity Children’s Heartbeat Trust which is one of four charities involved in the MRI Scanner Appeal said “This is a key event for the Children’s MRI Scanner Appeal in 2012 and we are grateful for the support being shown for our campaign. Everyone can get involved in our appeal, from a family event to corporate sponsorship – every single penny will help us ensure that sick children in Northern Ireland receive the best and safest treatment available.”

Mark Regan, CEO at Kingsbridge Private Hospital is both committed and delighted to be supporting such a worthy cause. “As a trained Radiographer myself I know the benefits the best technology in healthcare can bring. Having a bespoke MRI Scanner located on sites dedicated to paediatric care will enable safe and swift scanning which is vital in making a tremendous difference to literally thousands of children, not just now but for many years to come”, said Mark.

Local personalities dancing at the event include, Marc Mallet (UTV), Stephen Clements (Citybeat), Jackie Fullerton (BBC), Kirstie McMurray (Cool FM), Martina Purdy (BBC), Alison Fleming (UTV), Marie-Louise Connolly (BBC) and Caroline Fleck (Downtown Radio). Guests can also look forward to a night of a-list entertainment at what promises to be a superb event.
